1940s Outfit for a Scottish Wedding

Not many words from me today, as I'm still in bed with my cold. Luckily Elsa has been right by my side all day, demonstrating just exactly how napping should be done (in case I had lost the knack).

This outfit was worn to our friends' wedding in Scotland two weeks ago. I knew that it was likely to be colder than down south, so made sure I was wearing something with sleeves. As it turned out we had torrential rain, so I was most grateful for the bit of fur around my neck - it really does keep you warmer than anything else.
Outfit details: Secondhand 1940s reproduction dress, vintage fur, vintage satin gloves, vintage cameo brooch, 70s vintage clutch bag, 60s vintage pillbox hat with bow, art deco earrings of pearl and marcasite, Dolcis shoes.

I was quite pleased with my make-up so took a mirror shot. I have never been very good with cosmetics and it has taken me a while to learn how to do a 1940s face, but I think I am getting there. The key seems to be going easy on the colour, and concentrating instead on bright lips, dark eyelashes, and a strong eyebrow.

This is the only full length photo of the outfit I have, and it makes me look knocked up (or a heavy beer drinker). Gah! This is why ladies in the old days wore girdles, and made sure to stand up straight. Note to self: must improve posture. I should have taken tips from Grace Kelly - hold purse OVER stomach, not beneath it.

It might look like I am pointing out something cultural or intelligent, but actually I was just really excited by the menu of this hotel. Haggis! Stovies! Cullen Skink! Don't believe the nonsense some people say about haggis, it is really just a big spicy sausage and completely delicious. I love Scottish food, it really should have a much better reputation than it does.

There is nothing amazing about the photo below, but I simply had to demonstrate to you that my stomach doesn't normally stick out like Porky Pig in drag.

Gorgeous outfit, I think you have the 40s off to a fine art!
Also, I apologise for Scottish weather, but as you say our food is amazing. I don't care if I am biased, I love stoves, and haggis! Nothing wrong with a bit of offal ;)

Love the outfit! And you look really fresh faced in the photos :) mind if I ask what foundation you use (if any?)

I really like the gloves with the dress, always been a bit nervous about wearing longer gloves but you pull it off really well!

Much Love

I love a person who can laugh at themselves. Your make up is great. I'm going to see if I can find some tips on applying make up for a 40's look.

You look gorgeous! The whole outfit works so well.

I like haggis too, it's really delicious. I've even been known to eat it cooked but cold...

You look tres glam, and WARM. Which adds to the glam (nothing worse than a pretty frock ruined by blueskin and goosepimples). I fully admit to being a coward for chilly weather- I went to a Nov wedding, in snow, in a castle last year. BRR! Sleeves all the way.

You look freaking luvverly jubberly!! Shush this INSTANT about looking anything like Porky Pig in drag. Are you sure you didn't accidentally stab yourself in the eyeball whilst creating those fabbluss eyebrows? Thus creating the ILLUSION of swelling? Me thinks this might be the case. Because you look a cocking TREAT!

Oh. And cats are the masters of The Nap. It also includes "The Stretch", "The Purr-for-2-mins-Random" and "The Stand Up Turn Around Sit Back Down". I trust you are doing all of these?

Get Betters Soons!!!

This outfit is one of my faves I've seen on you. I'm very partial to the 40's since that's when my grandparents grew up. I have so many awesome photos of them in their awesome clothes from that time. I would have never guessed you have makeup troubles. It looks perfect esp with the fit.

You look gorgeous, lady! :D I just want to steal that whole outfit from head to toe-and I love how your makeup turned out! :D Pretty much a perfect inspirational outfit--going into my autumn inspiration file. ;) hehe!

(Oh, and as one who seems to lately be getting a lot of pics with my tum sticking out--due I'm sure in part to my over consumption of seasonal candies of late and a full tummy--I can sympathize! But dear, you have nothing to worry about--you have a lovely figure! ;)
