Classic Movie Style: Think Pink!

Funny Face film Think Pink screenshots screen grabs
The inspiration

It is utterly dreary weather in London today, I have my first sniffle of the autumn, and I am back into the grind of my normal job. I thought a little look back at a classic film would be cheery, and there couldn't be a happier montage than the 'Think Pink' number in Funny Face. Audrey Hepburn's gorgeous costumes from the film probably deserve a post all of their own, but this is a nice little pick me up for a drizzly Friday afternoon.

I don't usually like pink all that much, but with a sell like this, who could resist?

Think pink! think pink! when you shop for summer clothes
Think pink! think pink! if you want that quel-que chose
Red is dead, blue is through,
Green's obscene, brown's taboo
And there is not the slightest excuse
for plum or puce or chartreuse
Think pink! forget that Dior says black and rust
Think pink! who cares if the new look has no bust
Now I wouldn't presume to tell a woman
what a woman oughtta think
But tell her if she's gotta think: think pink!

Pink for bags! pink for shoes!
Razzle, dazzle and spread the news!
And pink's for the lady with joie de vive!
Pinks for all the family
Try pink shampoo
Pink toothpaste too
Play in pink, all day in pink,
Pretty gayin pink
Drive in pink, come alive in pink
Have a dive in pink
Go out dancing but just remember one thing:
You can get a little wink
If you got a little pink
In your swing

Think pink! think pink, it's the latest word, you know
Think pink! think pink and you're Michelangelo

 Everything on the great horizon
Everything that you can think
(and that includes the kitchen sink)

THINK PINK!

- I haven't seen a woman in two weeks in anything but pink.
- What about you?
- Me? I wouldn't be caught dead.

Ha, fantastic! I'm digging out Funny Face tonight! I love the idea that brown would be 'taboo' - who would have thought it?! x

Dear Margaret, what a lovely post. When I was a child that exact shade of pink was my favourite colour. I don't own anything properly pink now. A few very pale 30's nightdresses but that's it. I fancy some bright pink shoes. I must watch Funny Face again. My memory is not what it was... the only good thing is that I can watch a film I've already seen and enjoy it all over again. Have a brilliant weekend xx

Haha, I love pink! I've been saving a lot of outfits from SS11 and I've spied a lot of grey and pink among the inspiration...

Best opening to a fashion/chic movie ever - but whilst I like it - I was never convinced by Bing!
